When Grief Becomes a Habit (Ranj Se Khugar)

When grief becomes a habit, pain ceases to be felt;
So many sorrows fell upon me that sorrow itself did melt.
If I weep in the loneliness of night, the world sleeps untouched;
My tears find no mirror, my sighs remain unsaid.
Death is a certainty that must visit every soul;
Why then does sleep abandon me before the night is whole?
I used to laugh at the state of my aching heart;
Now no sorrow brings a smile, no joy can play its part.
